The ways in which you cook these foods are almost as important as the foods themselves. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), deep-frying is not allowed! Here is a brief guide to the best cooking methods that you can employ during your detox.
Eat raw
This is as easy as it gets. You can eat lots of salads during the Detox, so there’s really no need to cook something if you don’t want to. For those of you who are over 50, or who tend to have trouble digesting a lot of raw foods, you may need to stick to lightly steaming or sautéing.
Lightly sauté or stir fry
This means using only a very small amount of oil. Using too much oil, or frying for too long, will oxidize and damage the fats in the oil whilst also destroying the nutrients in the food. You should only cook one meal per day like this during the Detox phase. Try to use coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or olive oil where possible.
Steam
This is the best way to cook your food while on Detox. The steaming process retains all the nutritional value and fiber contained in the food, while also bringing out the flavor. Just be sure not to overcook them – properly steamed vegetables should still be slightly crunchy when they’re done!
